finding the saturation current for hand made toroid inductor

Hey internet

Anyone living in the southern highlands or Sydney area who has a 100A power supply I can borrow to determine the saturation current for this hand made toroid inductor? (its quite big)

need to know what the left over Henry value is @ 70A.

will be using an oscilloscope on a shunt to determine saturation curve.

Use a capacitor to pulse discharge into the inductor.  Measure voltage and current with an oscilloscope.

Though Tim means that the cross section of the core can give the approximate power handling of any transformer, ahbushnell suggests testing the transformer because winding by hand (if not done properly) can result in a quite large leakage inductance --which, generally, is something not good nor desirable.

Oops... After revisiting the thread, I am not sure how I ended up with a reply intended for a novice user regarding transformer re-winding issues. I'm sorry, Mathew...

Anyway, to anyone interested, the same exactly rules apply either there is a single winding inductor or a multiple windings one, i.e. a transformer or a multiple inductors configuration wound on the same core --for example, the single-core coupled-windings SEPIC inductors.
