Title: Advice about being locked out of AVRFreaks
Post by: gardner on July 19, 2019, 03:44:32 am
Hi all,  I assume that some of the folks here are members on AVRFreaks (same user ID).
I have been a member there since 2013, but I haven't used my account since around then.
Now I am unable to log in with the correct password, nor can I do a password reset.
If I try to sign up again, it says the user-id and email I want to use are in-use -- which they are, by me.
I can't see any contact information for a forum admin.  I am not sure what to make of this.

Did Microchip screw something up when they took over?  Any pointers on how to regain control?
Thanks.

Hi!
I'm also on avrfreak forum.
I never experienced that kind of problem.
If you leav a pm to me here with your id maybe I can help you and contact the admin on avrfreak and tell them about your problem..

My best regards.

Microchip are *notorious* for the turf-war between their forum admin team and their IT department.  Their corporate firewall FUBARs their own forum when accessed from the external internet, but when accessed from their intranet inside the firewall, it works fine so the admins cant reproduce the problems the users are experiencing to raise a ticket to get them fixed.  This has been an ongoing problem for years.

The obvious thing to try would be a selection of different  freshly installed browsers on a different PC (or tablet) to be certain the problem isn't at your end.   *DO* make sure that emails from AVRfreaks aren't getting caught in any spam filters on your original email account.  If you still cant get in or get a password reset, either your user ID is locked, or they've broken the forum.  It isn't surprising that they may have broken another forum that came with an acquisition - they did it before when they acquired HiTech (the compiler company).

If Chriss's offer of a side-channel to the AVRfreaks admins doesn't get you anywhere,  your best bet would be to register on microchip.com and raise a support ticket.  Don't hold your breath waiting for it to be resolved - registering a new account with a fresh email would be your best interim action.

AFAIK, the avr freaks user list and the microchip signons are still completely separate.
Unused accounts may have been disabled at some point; perhaps they are hijacked.
Your username shows up as “inaccessible” to normal users (the same page that would, normally show a list of  your info and posts...)

A similar account problem happened for me (one difference is that I was active there and posting when one day I could no longer log in and I was "inaccessible").
I made a new dummy account, contacted admin meolsen and he fixed the problem.

Besides posting here, I also filled out a web-page content report citing the same issue.  Somewhere along the lines someone seems to have taken notice because I received an "activation" email this morning and all seems well again.  Thanks to any and all that helped fix this for me.
