ELM327 (serial to OBDII CANbus converter) discontinued
« on: September 25, 2022, 06:20:45 pm »
I just watched EEVblog #1181 - Car ECO OBD2 Fuel Saver SCAM  (I got a youtube ad for the device earlier, which led me to Dave's video), and a comment in the forum mentioned the ELM327.  Interesting product, but I see it's discontinued.  I guess there must be other similar products available.

More generally, looking through the rest of their web site, I see they were in the business of providing ICs pre-programmed with useful little programs.  Kind of a niche market, as it seems a lot of electronics hobbyists would want to do the programming themselves.

ELM327 got mass copied by the chinese and put into a module, selling for under $10. So I could see ELM suffering, the firmware effort would not pay for itself.

There are better alternatives like Stn1110, 1170 and so on.
