HDMI as of 2.1 supports a max of 32 audio channels AFAIK. So that may explain it.

If you know any different from the HDMI spec, let me know though.

Well, SACD 8 ch audio was already on HDMI 1.2 so speed have been there. 32ch was enabled on HDMI 2.0 (2019)

Well I'm sure that there is very little market if any for 32 audio channels via HDMI. Applications typically requiring more audio channels will be in the pro audio category and won't be using HDMI to transport that for sure.

But if you have a definite application for it, I'm curious. Why not. Not that I'm looking forward to HDMI invading the audio market and imposing itself though, as the licensing is awful.

Cinema formats 9:1 and up, Dolby ATMOS like the more insane ones 24:1:10 etc it, but yep USB , Ethernet audio etc sorta better in many ways , HDMI licensing is a bitch yes.

maybe they should ask dolby about licensing and why  the pro audio market wasnt for them.As for needing yet another multi channel standard wots wrong with AES50 or dante or any of the other standards already out there
