Ask for help how to write firmware to DSP chip
« on: September 13, 2023, 09:48:53 am »
Hello I hope you All will be Fine.

So I have a microprocessor board(kind of CPU for the Whole System) in which the Processor is Texas Instrument TMS320F2812GHHA. This processor is getting hot when we turn the power on. Below Please find the Datasheet for the Processor.
https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tms320f2812.pdf?ts=1657675515389&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fproduct%252FTMS320F2812

I plan to buy a new TMS320F2812GHHA.But I don't know how to write the firmware into this new chip.I obtained a .x00 upgrade file. I guess this is the firmware inside the DSP chip.
Looking at the pcb circuit board, I found that the edge of this chip looks like a JTAG interface.

If you know how to write the firmware please let me know, thanks

Before anything else, I would check all the power supply voltages and some other things. It would be bad if the new chip gets fried due to some kind of defect.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Thank you for your reply.
Do you mean to use UniFlash as the programmer software?
Install the newly purchased TMS320F2812GHHA (no firmware inside) on the PCB circuit board,Then connect the JTAG interface and PCB circuit board through XDS110,Is this what writing firmware means?

As a side note, does UniFlash support files in the format (.x00)? XDS110 seems to be available in V1, V2, and V3. Which version should I choose?

I separated the TMS320F2812GHHA (original chip), 5V and 3.3V power supplies and GND, and they disappeared after short circuit, so I think TMS320F2812GHHA has been damaged.

I don't know about that chip, but in general yes - you can connect JTAG and program chip in-circuit. We even used JTAG as the main firmware upload way during device manufacturing. But usually JTAG is used for firmware debugging. And you can program chip before soldering it on the board with a special chip socket.

Thanks.

I looked for the TMS320F2812 socket, but there are almost no 179BGA packages.I have seen a lot of 176LQFP packages.

How to write firmware inside the new chip, I have never known. The firmware format is (.x00)

Yes。as far as I know,It is a digital signal processing chip。
My first encounter with such a chip,If you know how to write firmware into it internally, please let me know. Thank you

Who knows how to program and burn the DSP firmware format in the ". x00" file format?
