WTB: MSP-FET programmer for MSP430 devices
« on: July 09, 2017, 06:52:11 pm »
I want to buy a new or a second-hand MSP-FET programmer for TI's MSP430 MCU's.   I cannot locate any stock from any distributors here in the USA, which is a bit surprising.

So, I am trying on here in case anyone has an MSP-FET they either have as a spare or don't require the use of any more.

Why not buy directly from TI? https://store.ti.com/msp-fet.aspx

I'm in the UK and have a spare MSP-FET430UIF (earlier version of the MSP-FET) if that's any use to you.

If you put the new MSP-FET into your cart on TI's Shop, you'll see there is zero stock available on there as well.    I just called Digikey and the AE told me he is also surprised there aren't any of these new programmers/debuggers anywhere.

I'm wondering if this points to a systemic problem with the newer MSP-FET, and TI just decided to scrap it and wait until the next version.   Would be interesting as an electronics-sleuthing endeavor to figure out why...

Ok, mystery solved:   MSP-FET is undergoing a revision to comply with EU regulations.  Probably for lead-free stuff.   Meh.   Okay,  I'll wait.

Thanks anyway, everyone.

You can hack an MSP430G2553 launchpad board to serve as a general purpose MSP430 programmer.

Can it be used to program 4 wire JTAG devices like MSP430F249 or only Spy-bi-wire ones? I have 'arrangements' for programming over SBW but not for JTAG. JTAG programmer is quite expensive as well ($150-ish). I might buy the dev board it if it works. :D

I saw it today and it seems you can order it.

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...
