Better GSM Module Needed
« on: November 06, 2021, 02:14:55 am »
I am looking for a reliable GSM module which suits for industrial environment. All the time I was doing Designs with SIM800L modules & it gave me lots of problems & gave off that module.

I encountered problems like

*Unfamiliar UART voltage levels
*No support from manufacture (obsolete)
*Interefere comes from nearby RF panels
*Sensitive to PCB layout(I am not a pcb expert)
*2A peak power requirement
*Many modules does not work when buying
Etc...

Can anybody help me to find a better module nowadays?

Why would you use a GSM module in a new design? It was phased out in Australia in 2018, and most relevant markets have also done so or plan to soon.

Even 3G only has maybe five years left in Australia. Especially for industrial, I would target 4G.

Also, 1.8 V line level is standard for newer cellular modules, so you probably have to resign yourself to level shifting.

If you want to avoid all these problems and are using an SBC such as a Raspberry Pi, it is much simpler to just use a 4G dongle.

Thats a nice thing to consider (4g).But adding expensive RPI & Dongles cost more..!!!

Actually I want a simple alarm. There are 2 modules, one is the transmitter & the other is the reciever.Transmitter has a push button.when it pressed the reciever should turn on the buzzer.Thats it.

I was doing with SIM800L modules.Used the "call" function & the reciever detects the incoming number & turn on the buzzer.

I need to omit this troublesome Sim800l modules.

How fast apart is the calling station from the called station? And what is the environment where they are installed (commercial, industrial, residential, etc)?

Is there perhaps another wireless standard that you could use, or maybe even some combination of, like generic 433MHz, LoRa(WAN), or even standard WiFi?
