Linduino One board cannot connect to PC via USB
« on: September 02, 2021, 12:16:07 am »
We have a DC2026C board at work that won't connect to our PCs. I tried plugging it into several different computers, but the board would not show up in the Device Manager. Arduino IDE is also unable to detect the board and can't send serial commands, and installing drivers on the computer did not make a difference. The board is not visible to macOS either. I'm pretty sure there's an issue with the device's USB port because we were able to connect to a replacement board without problems.

Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this?

Sounds like what you suspect, the USB interface is broken, and you say another board works. On Linux you can do "dmesg -T -w" to view the system log while pluggng it in. If no new USB device is detected, then it's kaput.

Assuming you've tried a known-good usb cable as well, you seem to have already narrowed it to the board itself. The board itself is well documented and even has idiot lights for serial comms from USB. There's always the ICSP header alternative if the only concern is programming. Otherwise, you're looking at some simple board diagnosis and repair. Which may be more expensive than just replacing the board, in many situations.

It does seem like the USB port is busted as using a different cable didn't make a difference. I agree it's cheaper and more convenient to just order a new board as they're less than $100 each. At least we can still use the original board for manual tests as everything else seems to work fine. A bad USB port only means we can't send serial commands using our automation scripts.
