STM32H747-757, Dual core question.
« on: September 10, 2022, 10:59:07 pm »

Hi.
I have never worked with multi-core microcontrollers before. These H747-757 have two cores, a Cortex M7 and an M4. I have to make a design that uses this microcontroller to play videos on small MIPI screens, and control several hundred WS2813 digital LEDs.

At first I thought of just using the M7 core to do it all. Now I think that I could take advantage and dedicate the M4 core to control the LEDS.

But I have two problems:
1.- The microcontroller will have an encrypted bootloader loaded to provide updates with files on a micro SD card.
2.- The microcontroller will receive commands through the serial port or CAN bus, to indicate which video should be played and which LED light patterns should work.

So I don't know if it is possible for both cores to share access to the same micro SD card slot, and if both could also share data reception through the same UART or CAN bus port.

Using two serial ports, one for each core could be acceptable, I don't know if there are also two CAN bus ports and one can be assigned to each core. And although the microcontroller can have two micro SD card slots, it would not be a very elegant design, and it would even take up too much space on the board for certain designs where there is no more space available. Fundamentally, what I see as more complex is how to share the same SD card slot between the two cores.
