Help with Mini Pro TL866 II +  Fake or Real ? Bricked?

Hi all...

So about 2 years ago I buy this prommer from Amazon with the intentions of doing some PIC work as my old unit had died (willem). I never got round to using the thing until today and plugged it all in etc. Downloaded the latest software and it wanted to flash the firmware to the latest.
I let it do whatever and I think the unit had version 4.0.0 firmware and it wanted to upgrade to 11.06 or thereabouts.
Everything seemed ok.

I ran a self test and it failed on write error at the end and I also tried programming a couple of 12c508s I had lying about and it would write to them.

I noticed when I plug the unit in now it still says its firmware 4.0.0

I then start looking up issues with these and then see all this business with clones and the company bricking units etc.

The photographs ive seen dont seem to match mine and the unit I have is from 2018.

So basically what Im asking is where do I start to see if this is fake and how do I get the bugger up and running again ...

Any help/advice would be great.
