Arm V8 with internal DDR
« on: May 09, 2025, 08:28:12 pm »
Hi all,

was looking if it exists for a 64bit in QFP package with some internal DDR,

Similar 32bit in QFP was T113-S3, plus 1 and some other.
I can still use a 32bit, but if i can find a 64bit, still better.

Thanks

If you are indifferent between arm32 and arm64, then probably you should be indifferent to riscv64 also.

How much RAM do you want?

The CV1800B has 64 MB of internal DDR2, one 1.0 GHz 64 bit CPU with MMU, 64 bit FPU, and 128 bit vector. It has a second 700 MHz "real time" 64 bit core with just an integer ISA. There's an 8051 in there too. It is available for $5 on the Milk-V Duo board, or you can buy chips, but not for much less (at least in small quantities).

The SG2000 is an upgraded version with 256 or 512 MB internal RAM. They also threw in a 1 GHz A53 if you really really need Arm, along with the two RISC-V cores and the 8051. A Duo S board with 512 MB sells for $9.90.

https://milkv.io/chips/sg2000

However it is 10mmx10mm LFBGA with 205 pins, not QFP.  Small volume chip sales here: https://arace.tech/products/sophon-cv1800b-5pcs

The Duo S board is 43mmx43mm.

The only one listed there that is QFP (specifically eLQFP176) is the A13, a 1 GHz A8.

Which I'm pretty sure has no in-package DRAM. And, of course, is 32 bit not 64 bit.

True, but there are 64 bit ARM based SoC's. Which one has build in DRAM and comes in a QFP type of package is something to search for.

QFP (LQFP) variants that do not comply on the CPU part are the F1C100s, F1C200s, R11, ....

Thanks all,

i should be able to solder successfully the BGA too. That millk-v stuff is very interesting.

As of now, i cannot find any arm64bit with internal ddr, as QFP.

Here's an English copy I've had since 2023:

http://hoult.org/CV1800B-CV1801B-Preliminary-Datasheet-full-en.pdf

I don't know of anything particularly wrong with it due to the "preliminary"

NB Milk-V is a company that makes boards, using chips from many different manufacturers: Cvitech (Duo), Sophgo (Pioneer, Oasis, Duo S), THead (Meles), Spacemit (Jupiter), Starfive (Mars), Eswin (Megrez)

Sophgo is a company that makes chips, primarily for bitcoin mining (they are owned by Bitmain). Their beast (as of a year ago) is a box with 18x SG2042 64 core OoO 2 GHz chips (the same as the Pioneer has one of). They bought Cvitech and developed the SG2000 from the CV1800B.

THead, part of Alibaba group, primarily designs CPU cores (C906, C908, C910, ..) but do make the odd chip such as TH1520 (C910 cores) used in a number of boards from Milk-V, Sipeed, even BeagleBoard.

StarFive JH7100 and Eswin EIC7700 are Chinese chips using SiFive CPU cores (U74, P550) designed in USA.  The others named above all use THead CPU cores.

Thanks a lot, very useful info. Will be a good chance for starting to know RISCV a bit.

I ordered some cv1800b, and set up the pcb. Next challenging step would be soldering them properly.

Cool. If it was me I'd get a Duo too. Known-to-work dev boards are useful :-)
