Interfacing 68k Peripheral IC (shared mem) with SDRAM / STM32
« on: October 31, 2018, 12:42:34 pm »
Hi guys,
i was wondering if it would be possible to interface an old chip, that was designed
to share a 30pin simm-memory (4x4mb) with an Motorola 68000, with a 32MB SDRAM and an STM32F4?

Giving levelshifting to meet up to voltage (5v vs 3.3v) of course, but could the rest
be as easy as just interfacing data/adress/CAS/RAS and WE one on one and providing the clock?
Has anyone done it before and can shed some light for me?

Thanks in advance!

STM32 with FMC (Flexible Memory Controller) do have SDRAM support. Just search internet for "stm32 fmc sdram" keywords

Thanks for the answer ,
but the problem is that i would like to use the old chip with new SDRAM.

The STM32F429ZIT6 works with 64Mbit SDRAM just finde, but my old chip is
designed to share it's memory (30pin SIMM) with an M68k.

So i would like to replace the 30pin SIMM with SDRAM and the 68k with an
STM32 to work with the old chip.

Could you please be more specific ? Which chip ? 30 pin SIMMs are actually a small board with one or more chips on it.

sdram is not edo/fpm DRAM, SDRAM is DRAM with smart controller glued in, not to mention common voltage differences
