Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

While both options are good ones, note that the displays are not the same.

The TI "BOOST-SHARP96" LCD BoosterPack is based on the now-obsoleted Sharp LS013B4DN04 display (96x96 pixels), whereas the Silicon Labs "EFM32 SLSTK3400A Happy Gecko Starter Kit" contains a Sharp LS013B7DH03 (128x128 pixels) which is still an Active Status component. I have a TI "BOOST-SHARP96" LCD BoosterPack with a FRAM Launchpad and have been satisfied with it. It can (apparently) be used with many different Launchpad models.

Again, both boards are potentially good options. Your personal choice may well depend on what toolchain you use, or if you are aiming to try TI's Code Composer as compared to SiLabs Simplicity Studio.  At these prices, you might want to try both!

Thanks for pointing that out. However, I couldn't find information the LS013B4DN04 is obsolete - Sharp, Mouser, Digikey.

The Sharp boosterpack is compatible with several Launchpads. There is a utility called "Boosterpack Checker" in the TI cloud tools at https://dev.ti.com/

When I click on the DigiKey page you linked, I see "Obsolete Item" at the top, just above the picture of the unit.  I didn't pursue it further; perhaps it's available at some vendors, but usually when DigiKey calls it Obsolete it has been discontinued by the manufacturer.

Cheers!

It seems that this slightly different board (EFM32PG_STK3401) is supported by mbed OS 5:

BTW, don't know about TI, but silabs support seem to be very good from my experience. Created a support ticket just as a private person. About some "grey area" where datasheet didn't explicitly explain if what I want to do is safe or not, and got the reply from silabs application engineer answering my question in just a few hours.
