Looking for the latest AVR Command Line Tools (v1.0.11)
« on: September 06, 2014, 10:51:06 pm »
Hello Everyone,

I am looking for the latest version of the AVR Command Line Tools.
As far as I know the version is 1.0.11.

It used to be on the beta site of Atmel:
http://www.atmel.no/beta_ware/AVRCommandLineTools/AVRCommandLineTools.exe
but unfortunately it was removed.

I wonder if the avrdragon.exe from this package is working on Windows 7.
I have the version 1.0.3 which is not working.

I know the atprogram.exe from AVRStudio 6.1, but I looking for a standalone tool without installing the complete GUI.

I used the command line tool on XP, but unfortunately it broken on W7.

Thanks,
Majki

I think the stuff now comes with the Studio bloatware. So prepare to download a gigabyte or two of bloat to get the command line tools.
I delete PMs unread. If you have something to say, say it in public.

The latest command line tools can be downloaded from here: http://www.atmel.com/tools/ATMELAVRTOOLCHAINFORWINDOWS.aspx
It's pretty recent (5/2014)  However, it does NOT seem to include avrdragon.exe.
In fact, I can't find avrdragon.exe as part of the AS6.1 install, either.  (I've got two VMs, one with AS6.1, and one with just the cli tools.)  Are you sure this isn't something from the AS4.x days that has been replaced by a newer program (the current documentation mentions "atprogram.exe", which is also not included in the CLI tools download :-( )

AVR Command Line Tools is from the era of AS4.x and it is a standalone programmer package. I used it with AVRdragon on Windows XP, and I used to release my AVR programs with this easy to install command line tool.

As I mentioned I know the atprogram.exe from the AS6.1, but it is dead slow compared to the avrdragon.exe from the command line tools and it requires to install the whole AS6.1, which is huge.
I would like to avoid to distribute my hex files with a oversized developer suite instead of a lightweight command line tool.

Best regards,
Majki

Was in same situation, embed up programming with avrdude. It's standalone, well documented and cross platform.

Thanks for the hint, I tried it.
The latest windows version of avrdude was downloaded from here:
http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/avrdude/

For avrdragon it requires also libusb0 from here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb-win32/

After I installed the usb driver it worked well, exept this error message at the end of the programming:

jtagmkII_program_disable(): bad response to leave progmode command: RSP_FAILED

Apart of this error message it worked well, but ...

Unfortunately installing the libusb0 broke my jungo usb driver which is used for the standard avr toolchain. Finally I uninstalled libusb0, and my toolchain is working again.
So I still looking for the latest version of the "AVR Command Line Tools" which also uses the jungo driver.

First I installed the libusb driver with inf-wizard.exe. It didn't work together with Jungo.
Second time I tried the install-filter-win.exe which uses the Jungo driver,
and that way I can use the standard toolchain and avrdude together.
Thank you for the suggestion.

Best regards,
Majki
