Anyone know if the Microchip PICkit 5 (Pk5) can be set up with the Programmer-To-Go (PTG) feature where multiple files are loaded for different target microcontroller models, and the Pk5 automatically selects the file matching the microcontroller? In case it matters, we have variants of the PIC18F family
We have been successfully using the Pk5 as a field upgrade tool, where we load it with a firmware update and send it to distant service centers. They currently just plug in the Pk5 into the target board, power up the target, and press the (strangely hidden) button on the Pk5. The programming then automatically completes in seconds.
I'd like to keep this process in place but for multiple versions of the target that use different microcontrollers. I'd rather not make the technician install the Microchip app and try connecting with Bluetooth in order to select the correct file, in order to make their life easier and to avoid possible mistakes from selecting the incorrect file. Multiple MicroSDHC cards are an option if one fancies searching for lost cards.
I don't know how the Pk5 selects which file to use so maybe there's a way to have it match the file to the connected microcontroller.
