MPLAB 5.00 was released a few days ago and it seems that Microchip added beta support for some AVR and SAM parts with the PICKIT4 now. Looks like Microchip really does want to shift everything towards ICD4/PICKIT4.
This looks to be the "official" adapter for boards with the ATMEL ICE ICSP connectors:
