MPLAB X vs Atmel Studio
« on: September 02, 2020, 04:47:06 am »
So Microchip acquired Atmel who offered Atmel Studio for AVR development, but Microchip already had MPLAB X for PIC. I have a feeling one will get phased out over the other, and since MPLAB X was originally Microchip's does this mean that Atmel Studio will cease to exist?

Maybe.  They've added AVR and SAM support to MPLABX.  And re-spun their ARM/CMSIS include files, so that MPLABX has different defines than AS7.
I don't believe that they've said, one way or another.  At least, not without non-disclosure terms.

Hi,

Excuse our lack of knowledge, but does the latest MPlabX allow the use of Arduino boards / C++ code and also boards like the ESP32 range ?

If it does, does it actually work ok ?  know from the early days of MplabX it had many problems, thats why we stuck with the old Mplab IDE at that time.
