MPLABX IDE - how to update
« on: August 16, 2023, 08:17:32 am »
What is the best way to update to the next version of MPLABX IDE?
It doesn't seem to have a "normal" update feature.
Is it best to uninstall the old one then install the new?
Cheers,
You can release yourself but the only way to go is down!

I install the new one first.
The old one can be removed once you're happy the new one is stable.

And if you install the new version first and then run it, it will ask if you want to import settings from the previous version. That may save some effort getting things set up again.

It asks you the same thing if you uninstall the old version first (at least on Windows).
Which is what I do.
I haven't lost any of my old settings by uninstalling the old version first.
I'm always afraid that something that is needed will be removed by the older version uninstall.
(Just being paranoid.)
