Carambola2 WLAN module alternatives
« on: February 07, 2016, 11:33:22 am »
We are using for our products to hook them up to Internet those Carambola2 WLAN modules from 8devices...

But as the built-in resources are gonna be soon limited (flash/RAM) are there other alternatives modules which can run Linux and offer similar or better performance?

I'm evaluating those LinkIt Smart 7688 modules at the moment (580MHz, 32MB flash, 128MB RAM).
Performance-wise the MT7688AN CPU is a big step from the Atheros chip...but from the software support
it is far away for being used in production (Ethernet and WLAN issues).

Also the hardware support is poor as there is no real datasheet besides a pin description and pad layout...
so the development comes down to guessing ;-)
