Possible config for more RAM?
« on: September 04, 2023, 07:55:40 am »
Hi, guys,
I have an auto diagnostics tool, the iCarsoft CR max. It is 1GB RAM. Uses two chips for that, as you can see in the picture, so 512MB each.
Personally, I do not have any knowledge about RAM configurations and stuff. Just wanted to ask if anybody is having insight into whether the RAM is configured here by software or hardware, like by a selection of resistors or similar? I just found that the MT8362A chip is used in the SB30 System-on-Module development kit, where the RAM can be configured for either 1 or 2 GB. I have little hope on increasing the RAM as I am a complete novice in these things, just analog stuff and soldering experience. But just for the sake of chance :)

The silkscreen suggests that the board can accomodate memory chips of different physical sizes, and perhaps of bigger bit capacity.

Cell phone Mediatek SoCs have supported memory type/size lists in “preloader” (1st stage bootloader). There are even some community-made tools showing it. Perhaps here is the same case.
