Why isn't programmer showing in device manager
« on: March 16, 2024, 05:27:53 pm »
I'm encountering an issue with my MX-USBISP-V4.00 programmer not appearing in the Device Manager windows 11 when connected to the USB port, despite using Progisp 1.72. I suspect it may be a Windows driver problem. Currently, I'm following these links for troubleshooting:

Some of these USBasp clones are just bad. I have one that works fine the first time you program a target, but then doesn't work again until you disconnect and reconnect from USB. I gave up trying to figure out what was wrong with it.

Could you please specify which clone you were using that had the connection issue? Additionally, it would be helpful to know those details drivers or software versions

I have no idea. It's one without the case, just bare PCB. I haven't used it for years. I put it away somewhere and I don't remember where it is. Sorry.

I have a similar device, and it works fine on LINUX out of the box, but for Windows you will need the libusb driver (assuming you are running usbASP firmware). See:

Are you sure that Avrdude will work with that programmer since I see option of progisp172.exe?

Yes, AVRdude supports usbasp if compiled with libusb. So if the Chinese stick is flashed with the usbasp firmware (possibly modified to account for quirks) it does work – at least mine do.

Has it been flashed with the original usbasp firmware or does it still have the firmware it came with? What idVendor and idProduct does yours identify with?

They may have made changes to the PCB but I doubt it. If it's still the same, you can use this guide to apply the necessary firmware patches:

https://www.sciencetronics.com/greenphotons/?p=938

That worked perfectly fine for my device several years ago.
