No no. That's not it. And I didn't enable anything like this lately. It just appeared in the latest Firefox version (95) as far as I've noticed, and the actual reason is there:

So it's not just non-https links, but non-https links on https pages: "mixed content", as they call it. I had to dig a little deeper to get to this.
But mixed content is extremely common.
That would not prevent you from actually visiting a non-https website.
I never said it did.
That blocking only affects e.g. scripts or images that are loaded into a secure (https) site using non-secure (unecrypted, http) sources (a poor practice).
That may have been the intent, but I can tell you it also does warn when you download, say, a PDF, from a non-https link on an https web page. Maybe that's intended, maybe that's a "bug" related to the above feature. I don't know.
It has also nothing to do with links but content that is loaded automatically - i.e. not stuff that you must click on to load - images, scripts, AJAX requests, CSS styles, etc. You can still visit even a http site linked from a https one without issue.
Damn. It does. I can assure you. As I just said, maybe that was not intended and is just a byproduct of this new feature. I don't know yet and don't really care.
I'm surprised none of you seem to have encountered this yet - maybe no one is using the latest version? Or no one is using Firefox? Or no one downloads PDF files from web sites? At least half of PDF downloads now give me this warning, and initially I though that was only because they came from non-https links, but I tried this precisely on a non-https site, and it didn't give me the warning, so that precisely non-https links on https web sites. Feel free to try this.
