I think my ISP is blocking your site
« on: May 20, 2025, 09:48:42 pm »
For the past week. My laptop could not connect from home, but works all the time at work. I tried a different browser, and a different PC at home -

This site can’t be reached

ATT Fibre. This happened before with a large company website and the problem just went away eventually. I think I tried running a trace to see the server bounces...it's kind of vague. I called my ISP and they played the halo card.

Any ideas?

General troubleshooting commands. All these are windows terminal commands, Linux and MacOS will have similar:

General reachability of the domain:
ping eevblog.com

If your DNS server can resolve eevblog.com
nslookup eevblog.com
This gives me two IP adresses: 192.154.109.3 and 192.154.111.219, but these might be different depending on you location if eevblog uses a CDN

If it doesn't, you have a DNS issue. Temporarily you can set the DNS servers on the affected computer (or on your router) to 8.8.8.8 (google DNS) or 9.9.9.9, and you should connect ATT that at least one of their DNS servers is borked.

BTW, I was going to suggest to try to use directly the IP address to view the website, but nope, instead of eevblog you'd go to the AlternateZone.com
Maybe that's what ATT is trying to protect you from  ;D

That is extremely common nowadays.
Once there are multiple different websites hosted behind the same IP (Either on the same host or behind something like a reverse proxy), you *need* the hostname. The hostname you entered into the browser is transmitted to the host, which can then use that to decide which website you get served.
If you only have the IP, you either get nothing, or a default website.

Take it as a sign.

Wasn't there that guy who used to report eevblog to all sorts of spam IP lists?
Profile -> Modify profile -> Look and Layout ->  Don't show users' signatures

I never knew of that site. Great photos! Dave should really get out more. It's been a long time since I've seen him drag a Fluke through a canyon...
