Ebay ads

(1/2) > >>

EEVblog:
I'm now an Ebay partner, so that means I'm able to put targeted ebay ads on my site and (hopefully) generate revenue from people who click through.
If you find these ads detrimental in any way, let me know.

Dave.

Zero999:
I use Adblock.

Don't get me wrong, I've nothing against webmasters like you wanting to recoup expenses, I use it because another site I visit regularly has so many adverts, it's distracting, especially content links which are horrible.

Anyway, what ads? I've viewed this page without adbock and I still can't see any.

saturation:
If it helps your site, Dave, go for it.  My suggestion is don't make any ads animated, its annoying and kitschy, like a porn site.  If folks want a demo or a video of the product, they can click the ad link for more details.

On the user end, we can do what we find is best for us too including blocking.

I find web ads helpful as the info and prices about them are current; magazine ads tend to be out of date by the time they go to press.  A long time ago, a mag called Computer Shopper was 90% ads and was typically as thick as a phonebook.  Most people bought it purely for the ads.  Today, its nothing like it was, but that was before the Internet made is useless:

When it comes to purchasing gear or parts, finding price and availability is everything.  All things considered, if 2 parts are competitively spec'd but one is cheaper, or one has a discount through eevblog, then often the cheaper one wins.

I still get the Jameco and Digikey paper catalogs because its not easy to scan the website looking for what can do what but I never use it to buy anything.

Zero999:
I agree, I don't block all ads. I use Opera's content blocking which isn't as effective as Firefox's AdBlock plus which I like because it doesn't block Google sponsored links. If I find a page with too many ads I simply ad them to the blocked elements list. There's some controversy around ad blocking, some say it robs webmasters of revenue, but I doubt it's significant, besides if I like a site, I'll tell others who might not use ad block and I'll  temporarily disable ad blocking and click on a few of the ads just to ensure they get their revenue, which is what I'll do here.

Rhythmtech:
I am down with the ads, anything to help out and not make me feel guilty for not donating with "Donate" buttons everywhere or bleeding heart plea blog videos.
