Just to keep the options open, I tried one without any kinds of symbols. I'm kind of liking the simplicity of it... Here's a before and after:
I miss my home I miss my porch, porch

Dave it seems interesting when updating to Google Chrome 4 to 5 the logo disappears. I check back later but I have a feeling it is within WordPress code??

All I did was copy a new favicon.ico file. Nothing to do with Wordpress.

Dave.

Ok, I noticed the favicon.ico under Google Chrome 4 but Google Chrome 5 seems to not want to show it? Also it seems that Internet Explore 8 does not show it at all either but Internet Explore 7 show it fine....

The icon showed for me robo-x and I'm using IE8 too. Try deleting the favourite altogether then add it again. The icon seems to have gone back to the SMD chip for me now though. Perhaps Dave is undecided.

It's really nice. Personally I would like something more cosy though.

And here is a variant with better delineation between the 'v' and 'b'

What do people think? Sould I take up an "official" logo like this?

I quite like it. I don't think you can do much better with a few letters for a simple logo. I would experiment with the V; maybe fill it with gold paint to make it look like a PCB trace or something, to have a connection to electronics.

Yes, that's probably my only complaint. Not obvious it's electronics related. I like the gold idea.

Maybe a bit spiky. Also could maybe do with better seperation/outline on the b/l/o/g to improve readability.
Possibly a bit too slick & shiny - too corporate?

I still think it should have something that any electronics person would instantly recognise and associate with  electronics- anyone that didn't know who/what eevblog is (there must still be a few...) who just saw that logo would be none the wiser

I thinking it would look better if it was rendered as 3D vias and gold traces, to make it somehow obviously PCB related.
Will see what Moran comes back with. He's a graphic artist by trade.

I just read the thread right through, its nice to see all the ideas, and the evolution.
That last one from the designer looks great.

Coincidentally I was trying to design my own logo the other day and got as far as the Aussie 3pin plug.
I know mine is going to suck in comparison.

Perhaps something like this, Dave, with the Aussie colours as a bonus  ;)

Everyone knows it's the best plug design ;)

Joking aside I think the logo is great, it should transfer well to silkscreen too

Also just came across this thread.

Below are my attempts to add some electrical elements while saving space.

The first 'bomb logo' one is my favourite ;)

Here is another one, with some solder mask in the first two letters:  8)
Aussie colour scheme is just a coincidence...

Another effort from Moran with via added

I don't think really adds anything.

Perhaps the EEVblog needs an actual logo, rather than trying to create a logo out of the whole name?
Either something random, or just fashion the letters EEV into a logo somehow, with just "blog" a normal word?

Dave.

OK, new idea.
Moran & I are now discussing a standalone logo that doesn't include the word EEVblog, so just your traditional logo.
Although I guess it could include the letters EEV, but that's harder.
What should such a logo look like or represent?
I'm not after actual final graphic designs here, just ideas. If the idea is good, Moran can have a crack at drawing it.

Also, opinions on whether I actually need a logo at all?  :-//

I think it's a good idea. You can stick it up in the top banner of your website, put it on t-shirts, have it printed on the PCBs of your projects etc. It would be nice having something that people look at and instantly think of EEVBlog.
