My idea attached. The gradients are a bit shoddy, and could/should be made more realistic. Would like to do something interesting with the V, but can't think of anything.

I'm no good at drawing graphics, but I think having the V as a diode symbol might be a nice simple and direct way of indicating the electronics theme, more so than the inverter symbols of a few entries above.

I think it needs something to immediately convey the electronics-ness to anyone  who would recognise the symbol, i.e. all your potential target audience - EEV means nothing if you don't know what it stands for.
You don't need to go overboard with symbols for every letter, just enough to convey
the subject, so something a simple as a diode V would do this whilst keeping the graphics simple enough to render OK at small sizes

maybe this is too late to ask, but better late than never....
in logo design, its the same with EE design, we need to have some spec:
1) whats the theme and motive for the logo?
2) what to put inside if its not just textual (or only textual that is required)
3) how many colors needed (multicolor, grayscale, mono B&W)

Theme I don't know.
The motive is to have something that people can instantly recognise the blog from, just like the currently do with my photo on the front page. It's essentially a replacement for that logo.
All companies have a (usually quite simple) logo, and I wan the EEVblog to have the same thing.
I'm after something clean and simple that's easy to read.
I think Jan's effort is the closest to the idea so far.
But your latest "50's style" effort is probably the best "stylised" one so far.

Ideally I guess it should have my my head in it, because the blog is essentially me and my personality. But if the head doesn't work, then it doesn't work.

"Ideally I guess it should have my head in it, because the blog is essentially me and my personality. But if the head doesn't work, then it doesn't work."

You should listen to me because I have good taste. This is actually a no-brainer. The logo on reply #42 is your logo. Why? It does have your head and it's the only head that looks just like you. And your expression in that shot just happens to be perfect for a logo. The schematic while intricate and hard to scale is crucial because it tells the uninitiated what you/we are about. The probes are clever but the points are too fat and they cross at the bottom. We know they're forming a V but strangers may miss that. The overall logo needs to be cleaned up where possible. Thinning the probes and eliminating the cross would help. The tick marks could go too. I know I gotta lot of nerve critiquing someone else's work. But I think he's actually got it. And besides-- I should be able to put in my two cents worth. I'm going to adjust the image to show what I'm talking about. But all credit would go to the author of the aforementioned reply.

Hiya Shafri,

I am actually not "in it to win it" (While another multimeter might be fun, I don't really *need* it & hence it should go to someone who does)
- so please take any of the design elements of mine you like and improve them with your own concepts as you see fit =)

pls keep this contest open as long as it can, there might be another better logo. i still got something in mind, but currently re-formatting my pc, so my software is yet to be installed.
and i didnt noticed we have a caricaturist here in EE, awesome. guess it proves that engineers dont only deal with technical, but art and artistic as well.

Haha Shafri, thanks =) Well "officially" I am an IT Manager - but generally I deal with it "if it has a cord coming out of it" - so that means anything from coding to fixing optical testing equipment. The art stuff is for fun (seeing you have a canon L series lens 70-200? in your profile pic I assume you dabble as well =)). My next purchase is a CNC mill.. which really is just an expensive excuse to make a mess (or alternatively drill really precise holes into things that don't need them) =) ..

Well, I'm sorry Shafri doesn't want anything to do with a logo of his that has been tampered with. But I totally understand. I would be the same way. But-- I do think he came up with the best concept and I still think my alterations simply made it a little easier to print and so forth. Having said all that-- I think this is a good one too. I like the chip and the wire. Personally I don't like the head shot, just the other part. A head shot would be good but, in my opinion, it would be better to have the "real" head shot that Shafri used.

That's pretty cool. The only thing is-- it's more like a billboard than a logo. Logos are usually less complex.

I agree, would make a great Billboard!
A logo has to be small, simple, clean and clear.
