I just realised I don't really have a logo as such for the blog.
Not really sure why or if I need one, but I figure I should probably get one!

My graphic design skills suck, so any budding artists out there who think they can design a logo?
There would be a prize in it I'm sure! (in lieu of payment for full rights to the image *insert legal crap* etc)

As usual, haven't thought this through at all, so no idea what I'm after, but something pretty simple and readable with "EEVblog", as little wank factor as possible I figure!
I figure a white/transparent background is best.
The more "compact" the better I think. i.e. something that can be sized down to a Twitter icon or similar.
No real need need for graphics, unless it "works". Just "EEVblog" in a box might be fine!
Guess I won't know what I like until I see it!

Preferably available in some large original size that scales well for various uses, e.g. anything from a T-shirt to a small icon.

Quick tip about the logo design - avoid anything that just says EEV or even E2V as there is a real electronics company in the UK called http://www.e2v.com/ This company used to be known as English Electric Valves then EEV.

Just so copyright infringment is avoided!

My graphics sucks too so I can't come up with one, sorry Dave!

Yeah, it must say "EEVblog", as that's my brand. No silly shortcuts.
I might try http://99designs.com/ where you can get a community of graphic designers to fight it out to design your logo for not too much money.
I just figured if someone on here had the skills to come up something really professional, payment by Multimeter would be better :->

I was thinking, way back when I did a logo to help out a charity (it sucked) and I wound up using an old graphics type called Windows Meta File. I don't think you'd want to use the same thing anymore, but I'm sure it's been improved on. It's a vector line system, so it's (technically) infinitely scalable.

Might come in handy for the artists out there. This challenge is way out of my league.

just want to check....do you want someone to make a logo (on paper, microsoft paint, etc) and you use it and put it up on ur website and stuff yourself or do you need a web desiginer to create something and put it up for you?

I just need the image in electronic format.
I has to be professional and scalable, so no hand drawn stuff etc.
Probably out of the scope of this group, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

This is what I just came up with.
It's just a sketch, but if you like it, I can work it out and provide you with vector graphics.

Another possibility would be to turn the writing into tracks with some scattered vias.

They are pretty groovy!
I like the first one, and the 2nd one is a good concept.
Don't vectorize just yet, I'll take the best ideas I get on the forum and maybe use them as idea templates for a professional to draw a stylised final version. A prize would still be awarded of course!

Still, I already did some illustrations and logos for professional purposes (for example the logo for the department of mechatronics engineering at my university); So, in case, the offer still holds.

Here's one idea I had. Your brief was pretty vague so I didn't limit myself to just a vector image, but one could be made if you can provide me with the original scans of your "negative feedback" drawing. This can be made to work in grayscale as well as color, can be reversed (white background) and can be adapted as an icon/button. Let me know what you think.

Edit to add: I didn't match text colors to logo colors for this mockup to save time.

Email submission which is pretty good and along the lines of what I had in mind for a logo.

Thanks Dave. I think it has potential, but I think it needs more tweaking. This was presented way faster than I usually do with a logo so you're seeing it at an early stage. I admit, I feel some temptation to include a multimeter in the design - but it may not always be what sets you apart (and I don't know that you would want multimeters to become the raison d'etre of your blog), while your drawings of electronic circuits seem more unique and "timeless." I'd like to play around with multiple drawings if you have them and could email them to me in decent resolution and I definitely want to know your opinion of the typeface I used for the eevblog part, since I'm not 100% happy with it yet.
