Here's my 2-minute attempt at a logo for you. Obviously, it's not too arty, just trying to capture the most salient parts of what you do.

Whatever you do, here's two tips about what your logo should be:

1. It should be simple without a lot of colors, shadows, highlights, bells and whistles so you can reproduce it easily and cheaply in any type of medium with even low resolution.

2. It should be squarish so it fits easily within the gravatar areas of things like twitter and facebook. Don't use a rectangular aspect ratio.

I think it's a good idea. You can stick it up in the top banner of your website, put it on t-shirts, have it printed on the PCBs of your projects etc. It would be nice having something that people look at and instantly think of EEVBlog.

I think I agree, it would be nice. But what symbol?

Dave.

Some inspiration............I thought this image fits the blog well.
Not sure who created it but I'm sure a couple of quick modifications could make it somewhat original.

One thing that springs to mind is the arcing "sizzle" noise and smoke from the video outro. The "magic smoke" and lightning zap is pretty iconic, and what many (non tech) people think of when the subject of electronics is raised. How about including that in the logo in some way?

Now make that into a cartoon of Dave's head with that as his brain...

Here's something I came up with. Very minimal. Still needs some minor alignment tweaks.

EEV comes up as 3rd hit when Googling for just "EEV" in the UK, and 5th on the US search. You could probably safely drop the Blog part, maybe putting "Electronic Engineering Videoblog" or similar in smaller text underneath.

Moran & I are now discussing a standalone logo that doesn't include the word EEVblog, so just your traditional logo.
Although I guess it could include the letters EEV, but that's harder.
What should such a logo look like or represent?
How about drawing the EEV(blog) letters as traces of a PCB?

Hi Dave,
I came across your video blog recently and found the logo search via twitter. I believe you are a very humorous person, along with your personality and skills gives you such a succsess on the presentations and I like them very much  :-+

If this could all be fitted into a logo it would be great.

I imagine a cartoon surgeon with tools in his hands bending over a device, lets say oszilloscope, which is tied with belts to the workbench, ready to be "reviewed". Below that, with or without the already well known EEVBlog letters maybe.

Just an example of what I mean: http://www.basketballarzt.de/assets/images/chirurg1.gif
A grapic artist might give him your appearance, Dave.
Could be to complicated for a small logo  :-// , just thought what all can be layed into emoticons.

The head and hand from the photo on the main page are iconic. If that could be turned into a simplified/ stylized logo...

I still say a cartoon profile of Daves head with this as his brain:

Too bad I'm not an artist.

If you want to see how much that idea has been over-used, drag it into Google Image Search :)

This is my take on it. If this is pleasing, I can develop it further (more versions, text etc.).
Here a list of my thoughts:

1. Dave want's his face in it.
2. If one knows the evvblog also this logo will be recognized.
3. White on black, blue, red... looks great on clothing!
4. White on black, blue, red, green looks even greater on pcbs.
5. Just the logo as such works fine in big and small -> use from pcb to business jet.
6. The design is IP67 waterproof -> holds on to canyoneering gear.

I actually really like the current one Dave uses... it's definitely your choice, but it would make me sad if you changed it... the current one you use is just so perfect, IMO.

Just the simple EEVblog two colour font?

Not quite... This:

Come to think of it, do you have a highres shot of you in that pose higher than the banner in the main website page?  If so I would like it to try my hand at tracing that into a simpler logo.

The shot of you there and the look and feel of the current EEVBlog logo are already your trademark, and something which actually drew me to your videos in the first place... and your personality and style of review/subject discussion got me to watch most of your vids.  You have quite an established look already, it would be a shame to waste it - perhaps a modification of it would be best?

I specified once when I was trying to start a PC repair business years ago, exactly what I wanted, and someone designed it for me.  It was designed specifically for logo-ability, 6 colors total, vynil sign cuttable, and very recognizable.  Just FYI of course, but here it is, as a somewhat example of what sort of thing I mean by simplifying your current one.  Using your photo as a trace base of course, and the current look and feel of the EEVBlog banner logo.

Note this image is (c) and (tm) me.

Note my last name is Fox. :)

For the record, here is the original photo direct from the camera, circa 2006:

What do you think of this very rough draft, Dave?

If you like it, I can make it look way, way better - this is a rough styling proof, the image of you can be traced instead of greyscaled, making it like the caricature you like while being in your exact pose and shape, and I can make far better lettering, with bordering.  I can also give it more color if you want, making EEV a brighter higher saturation color would make the whole thing feel more vibrant, less plain.

Thanks, but I like Martin's one much better.
Much simpler and more versatile.

Dave.
