If Dave has another chance to borrow one of those nice (FL)IR cameras, I think it would be interesting to run a few experiments or conditions looked from the thermal picture.
For instance, watch heat diffusion while soldering a tiny vs a large component.

I think that will be a Mike project, as he has both the camera and a lot of boards he makes to do it with.
