Hi Dave,
I think it is time to introduce us your lab function, and show us the extent of difference between when using a cheapy one and an expensive when testing a circuit or product

If you just need a sine wave generator, how about this DDS kit?
http://www.midnightdesignsolutions.com/dds60/index.html
About $50 for a kit that can do 60Mhz. You still have to
interface it to a micro of some sort.
With a high speed comparator, you could also generate square
waves pretty easily. You can use one of the circuits here:
