Doesn't look like there is alot of room for the electronics. I wonder what the maximum current draw is and how clean the DC output is...

Yeah, for just $25 it's probably not going to be using a high spec 95% efficient SMPS IC.
Probably only $5-10 worth of actual parts

Maybe it uses the metal mains prongs as a heatsink, that would be an interesting approach.
Mains socket and house copper wiring as heatsink :P

I don't really see how this saves you from losing the charger, it's just got rid of the cable which you could have kept attached to it anyway... Why not just keep the charger plugged in? Standby power of most of these chargers nowadays is insignificant, measured in 10's of mW.
