Newbie Restrictions
« on: March 01, 2018, 09:58:25 am »
Due to some abuse of the PM function, newbies are now not allowed to send messages.
So you need 5 posts to get to the next level to get that functionality.

Dave, can I ask about the Move Topic feature ?

Has it been announced, if so where, and might it be a good idea to add mention of it to one of the Newbie stickys ?
BTW, it's a nice addition.  :-+

This is awesome, I get a lot of people using PM as forum to ask generic questions and do their homework.

So that delays the spam for like 5 minutes?

There are very few spammers here that leave more than one message. They will give up before they try to get 5 legit posts. Those monkeys doing the spamming are not that smart.

It depends on the message they get when they try to send a PM, if it says you need 5 posts...

Spammers are often automated bots - someone creates a bunch of throwaway accounts and then uses a bot to mass-post crap.

This is better than what we had before and hopefully we won't have to increase the threshold.

Let's see how it goes.
