Forums Rules
« on: January 31, 2011, 12:30:10 am »
I just updated the forum "rules" for registration, because it seems some people are taking things too seriously:

Quote
PLEASE NOTE: When you register your password will be emailed to you in PLAIN TEXT (I can't see it though). I don't know how to fix this. If this makes you paranoid then please DON'T use a sensitive password!

This forum is essentially un-moderated. Moderators exist, but mainly in an anti-spam and administrative capacity. Only in extreme cases will people be banned or posts deleted.

Dave hates rules, but here are some you might like to follow:
- Play nice with the other nerds.
- Be excellent to each other. That means no personal attacks.
- Keep the language as clean as possible. Conduct yourself as you would in a public place. And remember that kids may be viewing this forum.
- Freedom and sharing of information is important. Links to other forums and content is encouraged.
- Don't take things too seriously. Chill out and remember to laugh.

Enjoy.
Dave.

The standard legal crap that came with the forum:
----------------------------------------

Note that it is impossible for the staff or the owners of this forum to confirm the validity of posts. Please remember that we do not actively monitor the posted messages, and as such, are not responsible for the content contained within. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any information presented. The posted messages express the views of the author, and not necessarily the views of this forum, its staff, its subsidiaries, or this forum's owner. Anyone who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to notify an administrator or moderator of this forum immediately. The staff and the owner of this forum reserve the right to remove objectionable content, within a reasonable time frame, if they determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, please realize that they may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. This policy applies to member profile information as well.

You remain solely responsible for the content of your posted messages. Furthermore, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the owners of this forum, any related websites to this forum, its staff, and its subsidiaries. The owners of this forum also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or any other related information collected on this service) in the event of a formal complaint or legal action arising from any situation caused by your use of this forum.

You have the ability, as you register, to choose your username. We advise that you keep the name appropriate. Don't give your password to anyone, including anyone who claims to work for this forum. We also HIGHLY recommend you use a complex and unique password for your account, to prevent account theft.

After you register and login to this forum, you will be able to fill out a detailed profile. It is your responsibility to present clean and accurate information. Any information the forum owner or staff determines to be inaccurate or vulgar in nature will be removed, with or without prior notice.

Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you need to be banned from this forum or your ISP contacted.

Also note that the software places a cookie, a text file containing bits of information (such as your username and password), in your browser's cache. This is ONLY used to keep you logged in/out. The software does not collect or send any other form of information to your computer.

Dave.

Good rules Dave. The best sites I have ever seen have similar rules ("Don't be a jerk" "Don't cross the line or tip-toe up to the line just to see what the mods do")

I'd like to add don't post any copyright content you don't own or have permission to post. I wouldn't want Dave to get sued for someone posting material they don't own the rights to.

How come people are able to change their names?  Thats not common to most forums.  I was wondering why Mechatrommer was chiming in with quasi-english on posts like he had been doing it for years but appeared to be a noobie - than I realized it was just Shafri.

actually his username stay's the same, but in Account Related Settings in your profile you can change the "display name" everyone sees to anything..

Add a few ascii art flowers or so, or use "Dave"...

Real Circuit design time in minutes= (2 + Nscopes) Testim + (40 +120 Kbrewski) Nfriends

Testim = estimated time in minutes Nscopes= number of oscilloscopes present Kbrewski = linear approx of the nonlinear beer effect Nfriends = number of circuit design friends present

the thing is it just gets confusing. I just thought you were not around so much as I've been busy lately. Really changing name is not a great idea. there will be a setting in there somewhere but really regular members need only adopt common sense
