However, do not forget that Gossen MetraWorld!  ;D

Also I would love to see Hioki 3804-50, its only $100 and does a lot.

How about a high-end multimeter roundup? You did a 50 dollar roundup and a 100 dollar roundup. Now show us what could we get for spending much more. ;D

I am very interested for it!

I like ExTech very much since they talk directly to us, via your blogs and taking in account your remarks.

usually when i think of Extech meters i see them as a compromise between high end and el-cheepo, but a 500,000 count display? it actualy looks rather decent, so yea i would be interested in seeing how it actually performs compared to other higher end ones.

For sure! I'd second a high-ed roundup, as well (assuming you can get samples, wouldn't want you bankrolling!)

Gossen Metrawatt is the company name, MetraHit World is the model name of the meter Dave has.

I know!, I've had it for so long now, and use it every day.
It's just got so many damn features it'll take forever to shoot a review of it, that's why I've been putting it off!
Soon...

I have a Metrahit Xtra, Metrahit World, and Metrahit Energy.
I got the Metrahit World more than a year ago along with the Xtra but the one I got failed, so Gossen asked to hold off on the review of it till they looked into it. They never got back, and I never bothered to review it! It's basically an expensive low end electrical meter, probably not worth reviewing?

It is very expensive  >:( must be a good quality.. :)   its up to you :) I would love to try it few weeks.. thats for sure :)

There is another meter with impressive features, 5 times per second reading update and 60 per second for bar graph, its Sanwa PC510a, cost a bit less than $200. If quality of the meter is OK this could be good choice...
I think accuracy is very close or better than Fluke 87.

I do not have an opinion about the quality of the Extech MM570A .

But as long it claims data logging , and uses an almost identical generic software ,
that is also used by those cheap ones.
http://progshop.com/shop/multimeter/multimeter-bxm280.html

I would be less optimistic , about the over all picture about it.

About the amount of counts, my own needs are up to 40.000 max.
( I like to test my own professional DC PSU , that has an output up to 35V )

And so I can not be impressed by the 50,000 counts ,
I would had no way to test it ..  :D

Hi Dave, Hello everybody,

Dave compliments for your great website!
I really like your professional reviews, your sense of humour and especially "Don't turn it on....take it APARRRRRRRTTT"  :)
Brilliant!!

Yes, I am very interested in a future review of the Extech MM570, and also the Extech EX570.
I am curious whether Extech can compete or even outperform the Agilent U1250 series, and Fluke 88V Automotive (price/quality)
Because I am interested in Automotive, duty cycle,  frequency and an accurate temperature measurement are also important for me besides the basic functionality.

Keep up the good work!

Greetings, Max

Looks like MM560 and MM570 digital multimeters from EXTECH are really re-badged DMM from Brymen - Taiwanese manufacturer.

EXTECH MM560 = Brymen BM857a (http://www.tme.eu/html/EN/professional-digital-multimeters-bm857a/ramka_7055_EN_pelny.html)
EXTECH MM570 = Brymen BM859CFa (http://www.tme.eu/html/EN/bm859cf-professional-true-rms-multimeters/ramka_2930_EN_pelny.html)

As far as I know those models share the same specs. The only difference is in enclosure/button colors. Other than that they are probably the same devices inside. In Poland Brymen costs 30-40% less than EXTECH equivalent. Of course, the question here is about support, guarantee etc. Anyway, I own BM857a for almost 2 years. So far no problems at all.

*Capacitance, Frequency, Resistance, Continuity, Duty cycle and Diode tests with 100V input protection on all functions

If this voltage it is true, then this DMM its a toy.  ;D
Not even an unique characteristic on it.

I am 50/50 % .

I know this is an old, inactive post, but I just read it since I am in the market for the Extech MM570A meter. I had been researching it not too long ago and I notice an error in the specs from the original post and also quoted the previous comment:

*Capacitance, Frequency, Resistance, Continuity, Duty cycle and Diode tests with 100V input protection on all functions

If this voltage it is true, then this DMM its a toy.  ;D
Not even an unique characteristic on it.

I am 50/50 % .

I double checked this because I thought that 100V protection is not much when much less meters have 600V protection and I thought this meter was closer to a Fluke than most other Extech models. Actually, checking Extech's website and PDF data sheet, the MM570A is documented as having 1000V protection on all functions. The original poster must have copied and pasted the specs from testequipmentdepot.com because they have the same exact misprint in their specs.

Here are the relevant links.

Extech website for MM570A
http://www.extech.com/instruments/product.asp?catid=48&prodid=284

Extech data sheet for MM570A
http://www.extech.com/instruments/resources/datasheets/MM560A_MM570Adata.pdf

Misprint on testequipmentdepot.com's website (listed as 100V instead of 1000V protection)
http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/extech/multimeters/mm570a.htm

I hope this helps anyone looking into the Extech MM570A meter. Just be sure to do your own independent research when considering the specs of a device before making a purchase and never, ever rely on specs posted anywhere other than the manufacturer's web site and/or documentation. I always like to download and read the PDF manual of a device before purchasing to be sure I know what I am getting into and just not relying on the Internet for specs when I am spending more than a $200. Just my thoughts.

I like this meter and I am on the fence about getting this plus a BK Precision 2712 (so I can have 2 decent meters now) or just spending all of my budget on a single Fluke 289...that's a topic for another post.

I wonder if it has similar/identical internals as the BM857a I have (date codes indicated 2000 for a manufacture date).  :-//

Teardown pics in the Extech MM570A thread if you're interested in giving them a look.
