Tesla S teardown
« on: January 05, 2014, 01:08:27 am »
Somebody mentioned a similar idea in another thread. Have a Kickstarter campaign for a Tesla teardown, buy a used bare bone Tesla S (60K USD?) and have a series of teardown videos. I will back it up.

Buying the whole thing seems like overkill. Lots of the money is in the non-electronic parts (the body, the giant bank of batteries, etc.)

There are certainly some great individual parts in electric cars and hybrids, though. I was watching some of the old power supply design videos and thinking I'd love to see Dave take apart one of the huge switching 12V power supplies that go in these things - they're typically capable of 70 A or more continuous output, and built to automotive reliability standards.

EDIT: Just realized this was referring to a joke elsewhere. Nothing in this post is meant to suggest I don't think Dave should have a Tesla!

Maybe Vincent should donate his...
I'm not saying we should kill all stupid people. I'm just saying that we should remove all product safety labels and let natural selection do its work.

Have a Kickstarter campaign for a Tesla teardown

I feel like that'd be against Kickstarter's rules :P
