Poor man's RLC meter: software + PC soundcard
« on: May 13, 2015, 12:11:17 pm »
Hi!

While ago I stumbled on AD article http://www.analog.com/library/analogdialogue/archives/45-11/soundcard.html which itself was interesting, however author of mentioned software made another one http://www.sillanumsoft.org/ZRLC.htm which I find even more appealing: software-based RLC meter. Circuit is so simple that it can be breadboarded in virtually no time. Question is: how good such meter is?

Hands-on episode which could be as follow-up to #38 of RLC explanation could be interesting. Possibly such device is good enough to bin-sort inductors and capacitors. Who knows - maybe precision is good enough for beginners to actually use such as an instrument.

Kind Regards,
ogden
