The Mooshimeter: a 24-bit wireless multimeter for your phone
« on: February 07, 2014, 03:15:33 pm »
$99 on Dragon Innovtaion:  http://www.dragoninnovation.com/projects/34-mooshimeter

I'd love to see a review of this, though it's not due until August.

And, there's this:  "The Mooshimeter’s current measurement mode introduces 20 microvolt/milliamp of burden voltage when measuring in 2uA steps over a full 10A range. "

There is already a thread about it: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/crowd-funded-projects/mooshimeter-wireless-smartphone-multimetre/

:-DD :-DD :-DD Do the math!

Oh, sorry.  I searched on "Mooshimeter" and nothing came up.  Thanks for the pointer.

Yes, the forum search doesn't work well. Use google with "site:eevblog.com" in the query, e.g. "site:eevblog.com mooshimeter"

Not impossible, but they will need to squeeze 22.5 usable bits out of their 24 bit ADC and surrounding circuitry.

That does sound a bit too impressive for a product retailing at $99.

It has a +/-10A range. So it's 23.25 usable bits and 40nV (or less) per 2uA step.

I didn't take the +/- into account, you are right  :-+, 23+ usable bits is close to impossible to achieve with a 24 bit ADC unless it's fast and you can do oversampling. (IMO just 20 usable bits would be impressive)

A 5.000.000+ count meter for $99 does sound a bit unrealistic :D

Imho this small steps represents only the theoretical values and will never be achievable with such a device.
"Yeah, but no, but yeah, but no..."
