uCurrent Delivery Problems
« on: November 26, 2018, 11:22:38 pm »
I know many people have placed back orders with Welectron, and are waiting for my store to carry it again too.
Sorry about the delays, here is the reason why.

I had the usual delays with parts supply, and the assemblers pipeline, it was hard to get a confirmed date.
Then I heard they were on the assembly line now and all was good so I should have had them last week.
A couple of days went by waiting for delivery and when that didn't happen I contact the assembler. Turns out they were getting bad yield on the test jigs, a lot of units were failing. They tried to troubleshoot themselves but finally gave up and asked me for help. They sent the test jigs back and they tested fine.
Upon closer inspection of the boards the 0.05% 2K2 resistor looked suspect, and sure enough measured out of tolerance (slightly, but you pay 40 cents a pop on these for a reason!)
And it physically looks different to the other precision resistor, like it's a standard high tolerance part instead of precision.
A photo of the reel (from Digikey) looks like the right part so I'm waiting to get that reel back to inspect and measure them.
Have also ordered another reel of a different brand.
So hope to get this issue confirmed and sorted shortly, but it will take some extra time.

This wouldn't be the first time I've had resistor tolerance problems from Digikey if it turns out to that.

Murphy is a good friend to a lot of us here - but Dave's more prominent profile means he'll get the lion's share.

Or just that he's actually needing parts to be in tolerance, wheras for many parts the only difference between 10k and 1M resistors may be a slight change in power usage.

Plus, unlike those of us building a few at hobby scale, he's doing a hundred or more a run, so a bad part we might notice and redo after testing then forget is more memorable.

I and a colleague have been sent wrong zeners. At work it made a right mess of things as zeners that were supposed to be for protection in a resistor divider network were conducting, on the second run with correct parts we found false positives in the diagnostics the zeners were part of. These assholes that call themselves distributors will happily send you a certificate of conformity or charge you for one but will they pay up when they pick the wrong parts?

Probably, but this means that new stock has started coming… right?
