What's up with imgur links?

Ive noticed that it seems impossible to create a url link to imgur without it inserting an image into the post. even forcing the url tag results in an image rather than a text link.

i.e.

{URL}imgur image url{/url} results in {url=imgur image url}imgur image url{/url} when posted, regardless of what is done and the resulting post always has the images shown as if using IMG tags.

Is this expected behaviour? It's really annoying when trying to remove images from a quote or adding plain text links to the images instead of showing the massive images in a post.
