Title: Where is the "sent" folder ?
Post by: acanicio on January 13, 2022, 06:30:56 am
Hello all,

I've been having a private discussion with another member of the forum, and I think I have a specific disability (maybe ultrashortsighted or even blind) as I cannot seem to find my outbox or a "sent" folder where I can see the messages I've recently sent...

Thank you for your help !!
Best regards
Axel

My messages, on left side select 'sent items'

Edit: sorry I just realized the options on the left are collapsible. Might need to toggle that.should be some arrows somewhere. I'm on mobile using desktop version so my layout is likely odd

... the problem is that the latest messages (from yesterday for example) are missing...

When I first used the private message section I think I had seen the "sent messages" folder  but it was empty, and did not show the messages I had sent. That is why I forgot about it.

The older messages appeared only now when I got back to the folder.

Any idea ?

Other forums automatically keep sent messages in your outbox or sent folder, often limiting the total number of messages sent and received before you are forced to purge.

This forum doesn’t keep sent messages unless you check the “Keep a copy in my outbox” box below the message window. By “outbox” I guess they mean “Sent messages folder”.

On a desktop/laptop, click on top of the page on "My Messages", then hover over the "Messages" button, and you should see 3 more menus, the last one is "Sent Items":  https://www.eevblog.com/forum/pm/?f=sent (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/pm/?f=sent)

To automatically save sent PMs, in your profile settings, there is a checkbox called "Save a copy of each personal message in my sent items by default.", tick that one and then press the "Change profile" button to save the new preference:  https://www.eevblog.com/forum/profile/?area=pmprefs (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/profile/?area=pmprefs)

There also used to be a limit on sending receiving private messages if you are under a certain amount of forum posts. Try contributing to the forum more then you can store more private messages.

I've been a member of this forum for YEARS and have a respective number of posts to my name, and yet when I hover over my Messages, I only see 2 entries...

No way to access my SENT messages AT ALL that I can see.  And YES, "Save a copy in my outbox" is ALWAYS check marked!

Also note that because the word "outbox" is used, I searched everywhere in vain for it.  I also noted the URL to my incoming PMs is this:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/pm/?f=inbox (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/pm/?f=inbox)

Logically, I thought my outbox should be able to be accessed simply by changing the word "inbox" to "outbox" like this:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/pm/?f=outbox (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/pm/?f=outbox)

Sadly, this forum is NOT LOGICAL.  Mr. Spock would hate it.  That "outbox" modified link does nothing but display exactly what the regular "inbox" link shows, which is only my incoming PMs, not a single one of my SENT PMs.

I have accounts on many other forums, and this is THE only forum which prevents me from seeing my SENT messages.  It's very disturbing.

Seems pretty logical to me.

Note that the "outbox" is generally a term for a temporary location used in email where you may have written the email offline so it waits until online. Once sent it moves to the sent location.

Seems pretty logical to me.

My logic is rooted in the nature of words and opposites.  The opposite if "inbox" is "outbox", not "sent".  Hence, it was illogical to me why "outbox" did not work, regardless of explanation.

With that said, I just tried "sent" in the URL and it works.  Which is all the more baffling that there is no clickable link to get me there, and I must instead fly back in time to 1981, remembering commands to control a DOS PC.  I'd rather click links than remember how to morph a URL, especially because I am forgetful.  So whoever is in charge of this forum should fix that.

Until then, I shall try to remember the URL hack to access my SEND PMs.  Thank you for your kind help!

I laughed at just assuming the opposite of inbox is just outbox and expecting it to work by your "logic". And yes the explanation is relevant which is why I included it. Where are emails you send stored?

As for being unable to remember that pretty much the entire internet uses "sent" or "sent items" to store sent messages, just go to messages and then use the link?

Your screenshot is now the solution.  For the LIFE OF ME, I was not seeing expecting the need to mouseover that "Messages" "button?" but now that I tried it, I can see "Sent Items."

Okay, I will try to remember that.  But goodness!  That should also be found in the My Messages dropdown too.  The existence of this thread shows that I am not alone in wondering where the heck my SENT messages are.

But now I know, thanks to you.  Much appreciated!
