I like the feature, hopefully it will take care of the +1's we've seen in the past with the post quoted.
I think if used right this will reduce the amount of extra post, but of course it won't stop the thanks for particular reasons since those need to be explained.

I would assume that posts that are deleted by users also take out any accompanying thanks, don't know if the count is still retained in the users profile though, happy to test this if somebody is up for it.

Confirmed, I made a temporary post requesting that somebody thank it and once thanked I then deleted the post yet the thanked count in my profile incremented and was retained even after the post was removed, the particular thanked post showed up in the relevant list and is now gone.

Probably only relevant if a couple of silly people wanted to play tag team and then delete their posts.

For sure, I love this feature as it serves as a handy online bookmark that is saved in my forum's profile, down to a specific single post that I'm interested or valued.

A small bug I've discovered with the "Thanking" feature: On mobile browsers (I've tried both Firefox and Chrome) there is an error at the bottom of the last post stating "There was an error while thanking Thanking...", regardless of what page you're viewing. It seems it's not specific to any post or user, it just always the last post on the page you're viewing. Doesn't matter if you've thanked anyone or not, it's just always there.

On iPhone 5 I do not see the error using Safari browser, but I see it if I use Dolphin browser.

Having noticed this young and extremely bright Tim shortly after he joined and the great help he's been to many on this forum, I and no doubt many of you too congratulate him for his achievements.

Just noticed Dave has made each member's received Thanks visible to everybody.

Other forums do this, is EEVblog just following their lead or is their some call for members to work harder to gain more thanks ?

I've always seen that footnote where people who thanked a post are shown.

I tend to use the thanks when I see someone has put an effort in to help someone. But I see it get use to say " I agree with this" which is less valuable to the recipient and devalues the thanks others receive.

We need an "I agree" button.
