...And I wonder if that number is compensated for the rotational speed of the earth, the rotational speed around the sun, the speed at which the solar system moves and the speed at the galaxy (our solar system is part of) moves through space.

Relative to what exactly?

In following this thread I was reflecting on the likelihood of any thread staying on topic and whether the jumping around of topics within the thread was somehow analogous to particles subject to Brownian motion. Which naturally led me to considering the phenomenon of staying on topic as infinitely improbable. So the question is, given enough time, will a thread cover all possible topics and is that also analogous to a spaceship powered by an infinite improbability drive existing at all possible points in the same instant?

One requires the passage of time and the other does not. But would a long rambling thread have sufficient randomness to substitute for a nice hot cup of tea?

The off-topic thing is hard to answer completely but I can mention my own shortcomings, that can lead to this.

I did donate my car,  due to attention wandering, but haven't looked at the health treatment reaction, to such in general.
ADD is accompanied by a wide wide interest,  often sparked by only brief stimulus.

An example shows this, as I have two examples, from today:
1.). Passenger Bus side exits.  I just noticed, that an automobile system in the UK,  while having the 'other side', when moving, that is, the left side of the road (driver's left) is the correct side, while right side for some other countries).
No need to delv into the details, there.
But I realized, watching a BUS let out passengers, that, naturally, they exit out from the LEFT SIDE, of the vehicle.
Had to chuckle, at my own ignorance, but I thought, immediately, that the manufacturing then had to cover both type of roads, and vehicles.

Sounds really stupid, to need even bother, toesrn such an obvious necessity, BUT;  I did find surprise there.  That little episode was a result of being hyper-sensitive to my own instincts, for CURIOUSITY.

   The other item was sparked by a science show, playing there while I worked;
That was discussing milk cows and the calcium and other vitamins obtained.
What my question then was...(Is),  Do cows obtain vit. D by way of exposure to the sun ?
That's a really nice question... (Do they ?).

See what I mean ?  Often can't shut it off,...so I've tried being an inventor.  Perfect fit,  and I have pretty good tolerance for hardships,  (as long as no family or animals suffer along side).

I saw the word mental and heard diariah within 5 seconds of playing the video and turned it off.

What happened to debating the facts instead of dissing style and personality like its a rap battle? The jerry springer show had more class  :palm:

What are you guys on about? What about the word "diary" is so offensive to you that you immediately discard the entire video?
Quote from: Wikipedia
A diary is a written or audiovisual memorable record, with discrete entries arranged by date reporting on what has happened over the course of a day or other period.

I think that discarding the opinion of a person simply based on your own mishearing of a single word, that you take for granted, without ever even considering the fact that it makes no sense in the sentence, is incredibly ignorant and childish.
English is not my native tongue so i thought maybe the word "jilted" is some bespoke cuss word i've not been made aware of, yet it's just an ordinary word from that part of the colorful vocabulary that speakers use. I find no offensive language in the beginning of the video whatsoever.
You complain about "What happened to debating the facts instead of dissing style and personality" while you yourself are dissing a persons video based on his style of speak.  :palm:
Debates didn't go anywhere - you did. By alienating the community you have isolated yourself from actual debates.

And from my point of view i see you as a person not worth debating with, simply because you have shown that you are prone to completely discarding a statement based on your own misunderstanding of it, without ever even giving it a chance or considering that perhaps you might be wrong in the way you interpret it.

Speaking of Tfoot, i was a subscriber of his for a long time, but i unsubbed many years ago simply because his political content started outweighing his scientific content in quantity by a large margin. What made me subscribe to Tfoot was his scientific content, such as the NaK alloy experiments and the like. When he started pumping more politically motivated videos, especially around the time the "skeptics" were in full swing, was when i noticed that his political takes are (what i consider) garbage.
So back then i formed a mental filter that, when i enter Tfoot's video library, i simply mentally filter out all the political videos and only watch his scientific videos. After some time this became a chore, enough that i lost interest in his videos altogether and unsubscribed.
I've since found many more channels that only upload science videos. I will not mention these channels for the sake of keeping them out of politics and to not expand the scope of this thread too far.

Now i consider Tfoot a lolcow. As the video of Tfoot's mental decay shows, his reaction and cope on spacex livestreams is quite funny and i expect more to come.

FYI, TF promised to move all of political and social justice stuff to the Voice of Thunder channel about 5 years ago. The main channel was only supposed to have "top quality" Busting and science videos.
And there was a significant number of Elon/Tesla/SpaceX videos on the VoT channel at one point, but it looks like he's ended up doing with what I do with my 2nd channel. i.e. the "minimal effort" video go on the 2nd channel, and the ones I spent longer editing etc go on the main channel. So I guess he considers all the Elon type videos to be busting videos, and he obviously puts a lot of the work into the editing, so they now all end up on the main channel.

Well i'm not exactly a fan of him making thumbnails with clown makeup on Elon and clickbait titles.
And this doesn't seem to be any kind of "busted" video, rather just a jab at Elon with no clear message in either the title or the thumbnail.
To me this is just spam tier content, that i will not click on for the sake of my own time.

New video.
Just skimmed it, and the only new thing I see is around 17:00 where I saw him tweet this Tesla graph the other day, so I think that's what spawned this new video.
If so, I don't know why he doesn't start the video with that?

Or that there is a high correlation within his audience between repetition and likelihood to accept as fact, or believe regardless. I don't watch TF and won't start based on clickbait thumbnails but nor do I believe it is irrational for a YT creator to attract a receptive, if not to say gullible, audience who will remain stuck on like barnacles.

Actually I think it perfectly reasonable. I also don't think TF even has to believe a skerrick of what he says. I don't know, don't care.

That's a really nice question... (Do they ?).

About the buses--- back in the day when the US Navy ran the Northwest Cape VLF  transmitting site at Exmouth, Western Australia, they operated virtually standard "Freddy Kruger" style school buses (except for being painted grey) to transport their personnel around the base & the townsite.
They were, of course, left hand drive, with passengers boarding & alighting by the right hand side door.

This was very perilous for the sailors, as they stepped out of the bus direct into traffic.
I wondered if they got extra "danger pay", as the possibility of being "cleaned up" by a speeding "Ute" was quite high.
I also wondered why an organisation as large as the USN couldn't have just shifted the entrance door to the left side, as I very much doubted that they reverted to driving on the right side of the road inside the base.

When the USN later "outsourced" the NWC operation to the RAN, they sold up some of their later generation LHD buses.
A quite small Perth charter bus company bought one, & promptly converted it to RHD, so it wasn't "rocket science".

The Navy's buses were a special case, as bus chassis are normally produced as RHD or LHD chassis, with the body built by an outside company to suit the country of destination.

My God! He is an annoying prick!
Apart from that, though, some of his points are valid, like Elon's "fast city transit through a tunnel" idea, which ended up just being a parade of Teslas driving around a tunnel (wasn't it under Vegas?).

"Hyperloop" never went anywhere after Musk  abandoned it to others to develop.
Tesla sells a relatively small number of cars, raising the question of why is their share price so high?

That said, Teslas are proper cars (except the Cybertruck), so are a success on that level.
Space X launches rockets regularly, & mostly can reuse the boosters.
Tesla's very large battery installations work & are in regular service throughout the world.

Using Space X rockets  to transport people between Earth destinations seems like a really silly idea, for the reasons that TF did address in between his annoying clowning around.
Even if all the technical bugs were ironed out, the cost figures don't add up, plus where in the world is Elon going to land these things close to large cities?

Another pertinent point hidden in all of TF's dross is Musk's chronically over-optimistic timelines.
The various interviews claim all these great things will be here last year or earlier.

I shied away from Thunderfoot in the past because he seemed to have a massive ego, & this video bears it out, but the messenger being a Twat doesn't altogether make the message wrong.

To be honest, i can tell from experience that upper management does the exact same in just about any company.
A. They dream up features and all the "wow" things they could integrate into their product, on top of finding the most stupid ways to use their product. It's all just a way to find a broader customer base. So i think it's quite normal for any person high in the management chain.
B. They come up with overly optimistic timelines, because they simply choose to ignore the risks. From my experience if you bring up the risks then it just looks bad on you because you dare to not trust the thing that the company is developing. Then some problem comes up, certification tests fail which adds some multiple months of delay and 6 to 5 digit numbers on top of developing costs.

To be honest this doesn't surprise me at all. I mean don't we all set overly optimistic timelines to our own projects? Not glazing Musk or anything, i just think picking on these points shows a lack of self awareness. I could be wrong of course.

I would retort that setting ridiculously optimistic timelines is a lack of self awareness on the part of Elon.
He should know he has done it before, got caught out, & moderate his predictions.

Most of my projects have been held to very strict timelines set by those who don't have to do the job, so have ended up as sophisticated "bodges".

Don't knock a good bodge, though, it is often much cheaper than, & equally effective to, a more ambitious approach.

At 11:40 TF just pulls an utter BS. It's supposedly 'based' of what Gwenn Shotwell said moments earlier in the video. But I cannot figure out how can you possibly come up with that conclusion based on her words other than pulling it out of one's ass. Absolute non sequitur.
First of all it was about long-haul flights only which are a small percentage of all flights. Secondly, she said that a single starship can fly more often than a plane. That it can do dozens of flights a day unlike an airplane on a long-haul flight. How can you possibly come up with it taking 100x more fuel than the whole aviation industry based in that :palm: when all that information provides is how many point-to-point flights a single Starship is capable doing in a day,

New video.

BTW annual CO2 emissions are 37.4 billion tonnes. TF must be consuming quite potent magic mushrooms to come up with SpaceX emitting twice of that. Starship with booster holds about 1500 1030 tonnes of methane, which results in about 5800 4000 tonnes of CO2 if fueled to the brink (suborbital flights should require less). Which means SpaceX needs to do ~13 18.9 million Starship flights a year (35.6 51.7 thousand a day) to get ~75 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions. What an obsessed dumbass you must be to make such an error while having PHD in chemistry :palm:
EDIT: I somehow got methane amount larger than it is. It's 1030 tonnes, not 1500. So it's even more insane.

Somehow the starship is simultaneously doesn't work as advertised, doesn't have the required performance (while a new Raptor 4 engine just got released today) yet it's going to make millions of flights a year.  The enemy is both strong and weak at the same time. I've seen this rhetoric before.

Nope, he just operates on a different level.
He doesn't give one flying F that he got "caught out" or what people think of him. And he knows that's what makes him continuously the centre of attention.
He knows this works and will continue to do it because it works. Not only in the form of getting attention, but also drawing in investment and top engineering talent that want to be part of the exciting action. Losers who want to work on boring shit and boring timelines need not apply. Don't like that?, go cry to your mommy.
That's the world of Elon and why people are so obsessed with him.
Like it or not, this operating system he works under, works. Or works well enough to get enough hits to keep it all going.
