That’s actually quite neat. I guess it won’t work for pit mining but when conditions are right it makes sense and saves a buck too. The best way of getting companies aboard is saving them money.

Uhmmm, did I miss something in my physics class?

Ohh, wait, as it turns out - not surprisingly - it only generates more energy than it uses SOMETIMES. 

Okay, to be fair, after reading the article they do have a valid point, but it will only work if the unloading point is further down than the mine.

Now I am curious to know, how did they manage to convert the potential energy into electric energy via the brakes. A lot of heat? And Seebeck converters?

It's called regenerative braking.....it turns the drive motor into a generator.
