| 3.3V Ebay LCD Modules |

The confusion is some LCD controller IC's are capable of running from 2.7-5.5V (i.e. ST7066), they are fine with 3.3V operation which is what the vendors are saying "3.3V/5V" but there are two builds of LCD modules. For 3.3V power, the LCD board needs extra parts populated for -ve "N.V." voltage generator to have decent LCD contrast. This is the SOIC-8 and two capacitors on the PCB, that the 5V version leaves out. If your display does not have those parts, it is a 5V version. I would design your board as if the LCD is a 3.3V part. If you get a 5V part you could add the three parts and change jumper J1 to make it 3.3V, and backlight resistor too. pic and more info: https://mewpro.cc/2014/12/13/utilize-unused-footprints-on-5v-lcd-modules/ "Note: U3=MAX660, C1=C2=10uF, J1=J2=open, J3=close, R8=330 (R8 for back light current restriction at 3.3V)" |

Floobydust, thanks for the information and links. If those parts are not on the modules when they come in, I will add them. Mouser stocks the chip. --- Quote ---You should ask for a complete datasheet from the display manufacturer --- End quote --- fchk, since I am buying these off Ebay, there is no telling who the manufacturer is. Most of the China Ebay sellers really have no idea of what they are selling. If you look at their webstores, the electronics stuff is mixed in with dresses, jewelry, perfume, and all sorts of other stuff. |
