4 - 20mA Simulator

Hi All

From time to time i need to apply a 4 - 20mA signal to a circuit replacing the 300 Bar. Pressure Xducer for fault finding reasons.
where can i got a kit or diagram for a current source i can  build myself.

Wait a minute. I thought the controller supplies the power and the transducer is powered by the controller and varies the loop current between 4 and 20 mA. So what do you want to do? A transducer simulator which will vary the loop current so you can test a controller? Or a controller simulator which will provide power to test transducers?

Or is it that you are trying to simulate transducers which have their own power supply and power is not supplied by the controller?

Or am I not understanding the question?

Also, if you are just trying to test the controller, note that almost always the current just goes through a 250 ohm resistor and the controller is reading 1 ~ 5 volts so if you are right at the controller and testing it then you can just connect a 1 to 5 volt power supply.

Thank you for your reply.

In my case all the transducers get there supply from the system 12V / 24V.
They then return a proportional 4-20mA loop current back to the controller. the controller then either processes the signal or displays the value of the processed (4-20mA) signal value.

The signals are reference to Length, Angle, pressure, temperature rotational speed, etc.

When fault finding in the field, it will make it so much easier to be able to plug in my 4-20mA "simulator" and thereby eliminate {pin point the cause of the fault.)
Transducer, wiring or the controller itself.

And you could just use a resistor, fixed or variable.

And even put a meter in series if you want to know the exact current flowing.
