Does anyone know what screw this is?
« on: April 02, 2014, 08:10:15 am »
Hey guys,

I'm trying to find out the details of this screw that came out of a Logitech Z-5450 speaker. I've been to a couple of stores (bunnings & other tool stores) but they weren't sure :\.

details are, (NOTE: the screw in the diagram with the measurements is a different screw. Im just using it as reference.) :)

So far, I think i've only narrowed it down to a 'Pan Head' screw with a Phillips head slot in the top.

I'm not exactly sure how to find out the specs of the threads though :\. If anyone could post some tips or info, that would be super :)

In dutch we call this a 3x10 platkop schroef, free translation: 3x10 flathead screw.
But it probably is a parker screw (selftapping metal screw).

if i really needed to find a replacement i would find some drywall screws and cut them to the right length. (and the head to the right diameter)

no clue what that thread profile is called though.

There are some screws specifically designed for plastics. which have a slightly different thread profile to normal selftapping screws

Doesn't look like a panhead to me, though it's a bit hard to tell - it looks like a metric 3mm x 10 (or #4 x 3/8"), dome head, metal or plastic self tapper.

A domehead is less like a flat top with rounded shoulders and more like a roundhead that's been flattened on top  ;)

Those plastic screws are also called "Tri-Lobe"
The screw you have looks to be pretty standard pan head, you can get them here:

Hey, thanks guys for all the feedback :)

Looks like the link 'EEVblog' put up, looks like them. Now, just need to find the appropriate thread type/gauge. (I sent through an email, will see what they say)

Thanks again guys :)

Tri-lobe is one sort of special screw, which has a slightly triangular profile. There is also a type which looks like a normal self-tapper but with a deeper thread profile
