| 4 wire RTD cable shortening vs accuracy |
| (1/1) |
| drummerdimitri:
I bought a cheap no name 4 wire PT100 RTD that originally came with a 2m long cable that I had to shorten by about 5-10 cm or so to solder some banana connectors. My question is will this have any affect on the accuracy of the temperature reading since it is my understanding that it uses the 4 wire kelvin resistance measurement so theoretically the cable resistance should not affect the reading but I just wanted to make sure it was ok to do so. Also, the wires are 2 red and 2 white so does it matter which one of the red or white goes to the sense terminals or is it just important to have the polarity in order (red=red and white=black)? |

Nope, by using 4 wires, you mitigate lead resistances(up until a point). |
