48V to 24V LDO Convertor question
« on: July 09, 2024, 12:39:57 pm »
Hello, I have the HRPG-150 power supply which has 48V .I need to produce 24V to bias the DB02S2415A component.
What LDO converter can i use for this purpose?
Thanks.

Why use 2stage? Why not use a single DCDC to get your 15 2V:

Traco Tel 2-4813   does the job.

Use the DB02S4815A instead, which is designed for 48V.

Consider a 100mA fast blow fuse before the DB02S4815A, to limit the smoke and fire, if it fails.

Delta DB02S2415A is an isolated DC-DC converter: https://filecenter.deltaww.com/products/download/01/0102/datasheet/DS_DB02S_D.pdf rated for nom. 24V input (18V - 36V)

As two others have already told you, It is absolutely pointless to put another DC-DC converter or buck regulator in front of it to power it from 48V.  Simply order DB02S4815A, which has exactly the same output but is rated for nom.48V input (36V - 75V).

Your mouser link is irretrievably broken so we have no idea what you wanted us to look at there.  Some of the characters in deep links to Mouser can be incompatible with this forum's links. You can safely link to any Mouser individual product page, but if you need  to link to any sort of search result, please use Mouser's [Share] button to generate a short URL for the page.

However I smell an X-Y problem!

*WHY* do you want an isolated 15V supply?  What are you trying to power with it?

Hello  , I need an LDO converter  from 48V to 24V for the device below.
Is there something that could suit me?
Thanks.

To provide a low current isolated 15V supply, unless you have other stuff that needs 24V, then simply follow the advice above to substitute DB02S4815A or any equivalent 48V input 15V output DC-DC converter.

You do *NOT* need a LDO regulator (converter) as the max. input voltage of the DB02S2415A module you wish to use is not close to your 48V supply voltage so you do *NOT* need 'low dropout'.

Are there any overwhelming reasons *NOT* to replace the DB02S2415A with a DB02S4815A?   Do you have any other supply voltages already available that would let you use a cheaper or easier to obtain DC-DC converter?  Do you actually need an isolated 15V supply or are you going to tie one side of it to 0V of the 48V supply or to some other non-isolated supply rail derived from the 48V?  If so, some sort of non-isolated buck, inverting buck or boost regulator may be appropriate.  If you do need 24V for other devices, we need to know how much current at 24V you need to be able to recommend an appropriate solution.
