Component ID

I'd appreciate it if anyone could get me on the right track with this thing.

It's obviously an optical device of some sort.  The internal device is TO-5 sized and it has a thick aluminum enclosure.  None of the 4 leads are grounded to the case.

There are no markings of any kind on it.

Ahhh,

I think I may have found it.  It might be a Melexis MLX90614 infrared sensor.

Some day I'll have to hook it up to an Arduino and try it out.

Looks more like a laser diode to me.

Yeah. Can be an MLX90614. Personally, I used only silver coloured ones like this:

I have some of the black MLX90614ESF-BCC parts, and they look just like that - but they also have a part/batch? number printed on the side in white "BCC4578D01".  Same with the longer BCI variant.
