Eurocard enclosure
« on: November 16, 2014, 12:03:04 pm »
Hi All,

I have decided to use eurocards for a large project of mine (probably something like this http://www.conrad.com/ce/en/product/531380/Conrad----Euro-processor-circuit-board----SU527831-------L-x-W-x-H-160-x-100-x-1]) and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for an enclosure.

Ideally I need several cards connected with a backplane (I'll make a proper pcb for that), but I am not sure how I go about finding a suitable (and cheap) enclosure.

Appreciate any help and advice  :-+

Rack mount case for eurocards? Telecoms cabinets almost always use a similar size card, and the enclosures are common complete with the backboards and connectors inside already, often with the PSU as well.

Thanks Sean, that sounds like the kind of thing I would like to have, especially if it comes with a pre-made backplane. I'll have a scout around, any suggestions for suppliers? Ideally as cheap as possible  ;)

Just look for 19" 3U enclosures. Eurocards were developed to fit into those. And you get all the mechanical components, like guiding rails and front plates for them. Backplanes are typically done with  DIN 41612 / IEC 60603-2 connectors (they come in different sizes).
